Patrick Bolland

1946-2024

Information

Patrick Bolland
February 19, 1946 – May 2, 2024

Patrick would be very upset with a normal obituary, so this is not that.

Cegep psychology teacher (Dawson and Montmorency), rustic art collector, translator, generous supporter of many causes, unionist, anti-apartheid activist, internationalist, iconoclast, mischief-maker, anti-establishmentarian, rabble-rouser to the end, passionately sympathetic to the less fortunate and down-trodden, a quirky comedian, creative, eccentric, a dreamer, the author of projects, (unfinished, all!) collector (not hoarder!), jazz aficionado, dedicated husband, loving brother and cousin, friend of many.

Smoking caused irreparable lung damage, and ultimately led to his demise, peacefully and quickly, at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Balfour Mount Palliative Care Unit, finally free of the regrets, mistakes and anger that bedevilled him in his last few months.

Predeceased by brother, Tony, his wife of 47 years, Liliane Wojczyk, and his lover, Friedl Kaal.

Profound thanks to his cousin Diana, his caregivers Maria and Beria, his stalwart comrade Doug, the many friends who supported him, all the people at the Vista Residence and health care system that helped in so many ways.

Pat would have eschewed eulogies and mourning, so none of that. What he would want is a celebration of life. And that’s what he’ll get. Stay tuned.
