Georgios Mangafas

1940-2023

Information

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of George Mangafas at age 83. George was a pillar of the Dodecanisian Community and an unavoidable presence on Park Avenue for over five decades and in the evening of the 30th of November, 2023, at the Neuro Hospital in Montreal, surrounded by love and his loved ones, George took his last breath.

Most knew George as the face and the chef behind Park Avenue's Greek Avenue / Rodos Restaurant. After having owned and operated an Art Gallery on Sherbrooke street, and a photography studio on Park Avenue, he stumbled into the restaurant business, almost by accident, and along with his wife Georgia, turned it into a life-long passion that likely still burns inside him today, wherever he may be.

Although he enjoyed success as an entrepreneur, nothing compared to the joy he felt in the presence of his family; he would often hold and hug everyone as close and as tight as possible and say he was the richest man in the world...and he was, in fact we've all become better humans and richer for having known him. His generosity of spirit touched everyone who crossed paths with him and is what we will all miss the most.

George leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Georgia Mangafas, his daughters Helen Mangafas, Dimitra Mangafas and her husband George Efstratoudakis, as well as his grandchildren Ilianna and Antonis Efstratoudakis. He is also survived by his extended family and countless friends.

We invite anyone who feels compelled to cross George's path one last time to join us and celebrate a life and legacy that should be celebrated at the Urgel Bourgie Athos Funeral Complex 1255 Beaumont on Monday, December 11, 2023, from 3pm to 9pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St George Greek Orthodox Cathedral (2455 Chem. de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine) on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 10am. Burial to follow at Cimetière Notre-Dame-des-Neiges.

In lieu of flowers, please donate in George Mangafas' memory to the Hellenic Community of Greater Montreal

May his memory be eternal
