Vincent St. Hilaire was born to Jane & Garfield St. Hilaire on October 7, 1949 in Kinsale, Montserrat, West Indies.
At the age of fifteen years old, his elder sister Esther sponsored him to immigrate to Toronto, Canada. He pursued the Printing Program at Central Technical College where he honed his specialized skills in paper printing. Upon graduating and establishing his career as a Pressman, he worked diligently in the industry to gain his wealth of knowledge and experience. The wisdom his early years paved the way for him to secure positions with reputable companies. He was able to maintain his talents and remained a permanent fixture in the industry until he retired in 2014.
Following helping his mother to complete building her house in Montserrat, he looked towards new horizons and relocated to Montreal, Quebec in 1971.
As a commitment to furthering his career in the French-speaking province, he proactively enrolled in French courses, thus becoming fluently bilingual. He later met a young lady named Gwendolyn Celestine in 1975. It was love at first sight! The couple wed on July 31, 1976 and were blessed with three children; Vincent Jr born in December of that year, Nigel birthed in 1979, & Kareena arrived in 1985.
Throughout the years, Vincent worked steadily within his profession to afford a secure lifestyle for his wife and children. When he was not at work, he engaged in various interests including gardening, cooking, studying geography, travelling overseas, and participating in community events. Even though he took many trips abroad, he relished in taking road trips with his family and friends. To many, he was known for his fact-based storytelling, enthusiasm for culture & history, and his love for dancing. Although Canadian, he always maintained ties with his birthplace and was honoured to act as president of the Montserrat Association of Montreal as of 2015.
During his time on this earth, he lost his eldest grandson, parents, three siblings, and his dear wife of 34 years, Gwendolyn. Although he suffered through those hardships, he never hesitated to assist his family and friends through their times of need. They say that laughter is good for the soul and he enjoyed not only a good laugh but bringing a smile to the ones he was surrounded by. They do not build men like him anymore! Vincent, we love you and miss you! Your memory will forever be alive in our hearts!
