Témoignages à la mémoire de Cécile Shihata
Mama Sousou, always wearing a smile and ready to have a good time. Despite the challenges that life threw your way, you always managed to laugh and spread the joy. May you be an inspiration to us all to keep going no matter what and to remember that “la vie est belle”.

Mama Sousou, I have so many good memories about spending time with you...like when I lived with you and uncle Sammy in your apartment when I was ten years old. It is special to have had the chance to live with my sweet grandmother. You taught me to play cooncan and to crochet. We watched Bob Barker together every day at 5pm. I remember how you loved to show me your favorite things. We would go in your bedroom and you would take out your new art projects from your closet to show them to me; 3D picture frames, ceramic dolls, table cloths...You were always very creative and inspiring. Even into my twenties, I looked forward to our outings together to buy your materials as you showed me and inspired me to join in the fun. We would go to paint ceramics together or go to the store to pick new 3D pictures or a frame for your finished artwork. Even when Vincent and Nicholas would visit you, you loved to play with them and they loved to show you their toys and color with you. How nice that you were able to share your happiness and your smile with so many generations.
The most impressive thing is that you always had a smile on your face every time I saw you, for as long as I can remember. That is a great memory of you that you have passed on; it will always put a smile on my face. You had that effect on the people around you. Thank you for always being there with a smile and an open and peaceful heart. Even though I miss you very much, I am happy for you because I know that you have left the physical suffering behind you and replaced it with peace again...you can now be your smiling self again. I love you Mama Sousou.

I can't imagine what it's like to lose a love and move to a foreign country all at once. It must require a deep, inner strength, faith and hope to live through these major life changes. And that's exactly what Mama Sousou always embodied as long as I've known her. She may have been a dainty, classy lady who was jovial, petite and sweet, but she was also a rock. That's how I'll always think of Mama Sousou. May her soul rest, party and rejoice peacefully wherever she is right now.

Mama Sousou, My Mom,
You have left me in body only, because your spirit will always be with me. I will always picture your smiling face, shining with kindness and love. I will always remember your positive outlook on life that was constant throughout your life, even during the many hard times you experienced. You have been a great inspiration for me, to keep a strong heart, to face life challenges with courage and determination, and to never let hardships destroy my spirit or let me lose faith. Who can ever forget the sentence you continuously repeated `Life is Beautiful!`You said it even while you were suffering from dementia and many physical ailments. Your last days, even though you were mostly `not here`, when you were awake, you sang with me and laughed - you were giving me comfort even as your days were numbered!
Thank you, dear mom, for all the spiritual richness you have given us, for being our example for courage and hope. I know you are in a good place now and still looking over us.
Your loving daughter,
