Obituaries - P
Alexandra Perkizas (née Contos)
Alex, as she was known to friends and family, passed peacefully to be rejoined with her beloved Mimi. As an immigrant to Canada, she embraced her new life with bravery and optimism. She married Mimi in 1952 in Montreal and they maintained a loving marriage for over 40 years.
Alex always lived in a way that family, relationships, and friendships were the mainstay of her life. She will be remembered lovingly by her son Steve; her grandchildren, Jason and Kaylee; and her daughter-in-law, Etel. Her beloved nieces and nephews: Paraskevi Hadjis; George & Jessica, Theo & Lada, and Anthee Contos; Taso & Michele Markatos; and Gerasimos & Alexandra Lycoudis, all provided her with a troupe of great-nieces and great-nephews whom she treasured. Her surviving sister, Eleni Lycoudis holds her memory in her heart.
Alex loved and was loved by her cluster of friends. Many of this group she has known for seven decades. She travelled through life, shared experiences, celebrated loves, and grieved losses with all of you. She would want you to know that she was grateful that you were all by her side.
Alex never forgot her heritage. She was born in Greece and travelled there frequently. She maintained a respect for her heritage, her culture, and her religion.
Finally, Alex valued life. She believed it should be lived well and happily. If her voice could be heard now she would say “Remember me, Be Happy, I love you”.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a contribution be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
