Ferguson Glenn

It is with a profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father Ferguson Glenn.

5 time decorated WWII veteran.

He was a real Canadian War hero.
He received the Atlantic Star, the Burma Star, the 39-45 star, the King George Medal, and the 39-45 Volunteer Medal.

He was Merchant Navy sailor through and through.

We're it not for the sacrifices of 'Ordinary Canadian heros' like our father, we would all be speaking German.
Brave Canadian lads life our father sacrificed their innocence to stand tall against the tyranny of the Nazi Tide.

He began the war as an oiler and by its midway point, he was the Chief Mechanical Engineer on the ship.

Following the war, our parents owned and operated the BP service station on Côte Vertu boul. in Saint-Laurent from 1958 until 1978. Our parents had very strong ties to the community and his station could almost be described as a community center for the amount of people who stopped to talk with them and share life moments with them both.

Our father was a very strong supporter of the Jewish community in Saint-Laurent and the Beth Ora Synagogue in particular . He was very sensitive to the devastation thrust upon the Jewish people during the holocaust. At their service station, they would put aside 2 days per year where all of the profits of those days were donated to the B'nai B'rith Foundation .

In appreciation, The B'nai B'rith Foundation planted Cypress trees in their honor on the Golan Heights in Israël.

One day someone said to our father in reference to his work for B'nai B'rith :"But you're not even Jewish?"

His eyes lit up and he replied:" What's your point! ? I saw that devastation up close. These people in our community are survivors. They are my community".

Later in life he became a teacher of auto mechanics and welding at Father Mcdonald High school in Saint-Laurent. At that time they referred to these programs as short vocational training.

Another way of saying : "Students who were not meant for mainstream education".

Our father and Mother used their years of experience and connections in the automotive industry to create an "apprenticeship /stage" program for his them to give them a fighting chance in life.

Our father believed in his students, and still to this day we run into former students of his who say that we're it not for 'Fergie', they would not have had a career.

Widower to Fleur-Ange Gauthier who passed in 1996, father to Juanita and John. Grandfather to J Mariah Hughes MD, Kurt Hughes, and little Fleur-Ange. Katya Tyutyunyk stepdaughter to John. Father in law to Larry R. Hughes and Bogdana Glenn.

He did his absolute best to stay with us a little longer. And for a time he did.

He never gave up.

He didn't know the meaning of the word 'quit'.

Sadly his heart finally said:"Rest old friend", and he passed on the morning of Saturday November 4th.

We take comfort in knowing that he spent his last night cuddling and watching cartoons with our little Fleur-Ange in his bed at home.

He was surrounded by love.

All of the hard work that was put in by our family as well as the CLSC offered him the opportunity to pass at home, in strength and in dignity, surrounded by love.

He will be profoundly missed, and his spirit will be celebrated by those who loved him.

We love you dad.
On t'aime papa.

On this coming Remembrance day...

Let us remember those brave Canadian lads and women like our father 'Fergie' who sacrificed so much for the freedoms

A religious service will be held at the Field of Honor Cemetery
on Friday, November 17, 2017 at 2:30 pm.
