Joseph Amblard

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Joseph Henry Amblard, Tuesday, March 16, 2021 in the 91st year of his remarkable life. He passed away peacefully at The Jewish General Hospital in Montreal.

Joe will now be reunited with his adoring wife Mary of 45 years, and loving companion Geneviève Valentin. He is survived by his two children, Julie (her partner, Étienne) and Jody (his partner Ann), his beloved grandchildren Chloé and D’Arcy, his sister Arlene and her children Omar, Dylan and Derek, his best friend & cousin Ramon and their nieces Alexandra and Elizabeth.

Born in Toronto, raised in New York, he made his life in Montreal after graduating from MIT Summa Cum Laude in 1951, fell in love with Mary, founded a successful small business and raised a family.

His resounding and positive personality made him the centre of attention in any room, and his boisterous love of life invariably infected everyone around him.

With a wonderful sense of humour, quick wit and a warm smile he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him.

Our deepest thanks go to all of his home caregivers and companions, with a special mention to his cardiologist, Dr. Gilles Côté, GP Dr. Irwin Rodier, as well as the staff & doctors at the Glen and the Jewish General Hospitals for a level of kindness and professionalism that made all the difference.

Donations can be made to these hospitals through their websites, with our thanks.

Visitations will take place at the Urgel Bourgie funeral home at 1255 Beaumont & Jean-Talon
(H3P 3J1) on Sunday, March 21st between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., and between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.

An abridged service. will take place on Monday, March 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at Urgel Bourgie followed by a funeral procession to the Côte des Neiges cemetery.

The service will be video streamed on the Obituary’s page on the Urgel Bourgie website.
In solidarity with COVID restrictions, personal attendance to both the visitations and the service will be limited by invitations only, with regret.
