Katerina Bishyk (née Marchywka)

Kateryna Bishyk (née Marchewka) peacefully passed away on May 15, 2020, at the age of 96.
Born in Chotylub, Ukraine, on February 8, 1924, she arrived in Canada at Pier 21, Halifax, in 1948 from a displaced persons camp in Germany. Like most of her generation, she overcame many hardships and looked forward to a better life in Canada. She married Mychajlo Bishyk in 1950 and settled in Lachine where they became active members of its Ukrainian community and church.
With a strong and independent spirit, she worked tirelessly at their grocery store and on their farm after retirement. Her varenyky, cabbage rolls and fish dinners at their Park Tavern were legendary. In her later years, she enjoyed sitting on her front porch and having conversations with her neighbours and passers-by.
Predeceased by her husband and her siblings, she leaves to mourn her passing an extended family, many friends and several godchildren.

During this time of COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral service will take place with arrangements by Urgel Bourgie Ltée Lachine.

A memorial service will be announced when restrictions have been lifted. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her memory to: St. Basil the Great Ukrainian Catholic Church, 875 Rue Provost, Lachine, QC H8S 1M8.

May she Rest In Peace.
Vichnaya Pamyat.

Messages in memory of Katerina Bishyk (née Marchywka)

Peter and Anna Kardasz
May 24, 2020
Kateryna Bishyk was a wonderful and kind godmother, always giving us good advice. She was the last of a group of young women, our mother included, who arrived together in Canada from a displaced persons camp in Germany. They remained lifelong friends. Dear Mila, Paraska, Sofia, Tania and Kateryna, Vichnaya Pamyat.

Vichnaya Pamyiat Dorohenka Pani Bishyk , “I will miss our get togethers on your front balcony. Chatting Was Always a Pleasant way to pass some time.” Her attitude to life was something to be admired. She said she took life , one day at a time. No thinking about the future. Vera.
