Joanne Toman (nee Forster)

It is with profound sadness and unconditional love that we announce the death of Joanne Mary Toman (nee Forster), on March 17, 2020 in Saint-Bruno, QC. She was 60 years old. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Ronald, of over 38 years, her daughters Pamela (Derek), Krystin (Robert) and Kelly (Callum), her precious granddaughters Joanna and Lea, as well as her only brother Kevin (Sue), sister-in-law Donna (Barry), mother-in-law, Jane, her nephews Reilly, Drew, Rory and Colton, as well as countless loyal cousins.

She is also mourned by lifelong close friends whom she developed sacred connections with, transcending friendship. It is through many of these friendships that she made lasting impacts on the lives of their children, whom she loved and nurtured as if they were her own (Kristina, Debra and Claire, Summer, Ashley, Amanda and Christopher). They will each remember her legacy of unconditional love and miss her terribly.

Despite a 10-year long and difficult battle with dementia, Joanne will be remembered for the light she brought to the lives of so many people she touched both before and after she was diagnosed with her illness, and for the resilience she exhibited until the very end.

In her final years, she could be found smiling, dancing and singing to the staff members at CHSLD Centre Montarville, where she was cared for with the utmost love and compassion until her final moments.

The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. Izabela Klosowski, Dr. Carmen Messier and the team of doctors, préposés, nurses and allied health professionals at Centre Montarville who ensured her peace, comfort and dignity throughout her journey home over 5 years. They will each be remembered for their incredible devotion and kindness toward her until her very final moments.

Joanne always wanted to give meaning to her experience by helping others. In appreciation, we therefore ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name: https://www.canadahelps.org/fr/dn/20227.

In an effort to ensure the safety and safe travels of all her loved ones, funeral arrangements and a celebration of Joanne’s remarkable life and legacy will be made for a later date and will be communicated as soon as logistically possible.

Joanne is proof positive that angels live among us. She spent her time on earth infusing a spirit of caring and compassion, joining Ron in raising a wonderful family, and showing all of us, right to the end of her days, how to live a life of quiet grace and dignity. Now, she is reunited with her loved ones who preceded her. Fly high, Jo!
