Robert Samuel McFetridge
In Montreal, at the Mount Sinai Hospital, passed away Robert S. McFetridge, son of the late Susan McCarten of Belfast and Nathanial McFetridge of Larne.
Beloved Husband of Ingrid Breckon-McFetridge, dearly loved Father of Linda (Peter Conway), much loved Grandfather to Justin, Andrea and Gregory, loved Stepfather to Claire (Nelson Lachance), Jane (Scott Greenhill), Christopher (Barbara Kane) and Jennifer (Lawrence Blain). World’s most loved Step-grandfather to Evin, Melissa, Rochelle, Chris, Kyle, Samantha and Jules, Brother of Richard and Herbert McFetridge, predeceased by brother Jim and sisters Margaret and Betty and his first wife Rolande Lavergne. Uncle Bob to Margaret and Morgan, Bobby and Jean, Susan and Bill, John and Laurie, Sandra and Conrad and Ronne and Liz and dear friend of many.
Bob joined the R.C.A.F. on his 18th birthday in 1942 , serving his country during WW11 as Flight Lieutenant, flying Vampire, Fleetfinch, Harvard, T33 and Sabre Mark 5. Bob remained an active member of the 438 Squadron for many years.
Bob joined the Great West Life Assurance Company in March 11, 1957 where he enjoyed a successful career as Group Manager in Montreal until his retirement in November 1988.
Bob spent his next 20 years in retirement enjoying his cottage at Lac Gagnon where he was joined by his two brothers Richard and Herb, and dear friend Barry Condy. These times were made priceless as friendships were forged with the Poliquin family and countless others who came to love his kind, generous and welcoming ways. There was always room at Bob’s table.
Today we lost a husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle godfather and dear friend. How do you carry on a legacy of 84 years?. By doing as he did. Find something to celebrate each day, be good to your mother, respect your father, be kind to the man on the corner looking for spare change, cry a little at old movies, have the occasional “B.R.” laugh “til you cry”, use kindness instead of fists, tip too much, be awed at every sunset, take a “raft ride” at midnight, pay your bills on time, and love as if there were no tomorrow. We’re going to miss you like crazy, but here’ll be one swingin’ reunion in Heaven tonight! Until we meet again…
The family wants to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Montreal General and Mount Sinai Hospitals, especially Dr Golda for all their help and support.
In lieu of flowers, donation to the Prostate Cancer Society would be appreciated.
