Georges Christou

Georges Christou passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday December 29th at The Jewish General Hospital.

Born in Ioannina Greece, Georges immigrated to Canada over 60 years ago, bringing with him not only his dreams but also the vibrant spirit of his homeland. He was a loving husband to his late wife; Panorea, a devoted father to Demetre (Angie), and a cherished grandfather to Christina (David) and George. His family was his pride and joy, and his affection for his grandchildren was unmatched.

A master in the kitchen, Georges had an unparalleled passion for cooking. His meals were more than just food—they were expressions of love, tradition, and joy. Family gatherings, especially Greek Easter celebrations, were made all the more special by his incredible culinary talents and joie de vivre. His lamb roasts, moussaka, and perfectly grilled Sea Bream “tsipoura” were legendary, and will forever remain cherished memories for all who were lucky enough to gather at his table.

Georges equally had a unique ability to bring life to any room or family get together. His warm smile, quick wit, and welcoming nature made everyone feel like family. Whether sharing a laugh, pouring a glass of Tsipouro, or teaching his grandchildren how to play Backgammon, Georges had an extraordinary way of making everyone feel special. Georges will forever be remembered for his kindness, his love of life, and the joy he brought to everyone he met.

George’s family will receive condolences at Urgel Bourgie, located at 1255 Ave. Beaumont on Tuesday, January 7th from 5:00PM-9:00PM. The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, January 8th at 10:00AM at St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral, located at 2455 Chem. de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine.

Georges’ family would also like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at The Jewish General Hospital’s cardiology department, who cared for him so compassionately.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Jewish General Hospital Foundation in his memory.
