Marcel Saint-Cyr
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of cellist Marcel Saint-Cyr, who passed away in Montreal on December 30, 2023, at the age of 85. A native of Quebec City, he was the son of the late Aline Lamontagne and the late Louis-Joseph Saint-Cyr, and brother of the late Benoit (feue Françoise), the late René (feue Hélène), the late Julienne (feu Jean), the late Dom André, the late Bernard (Lucille), the late Claire (Jean).
He is survived by his children Jean-Pascal and Violaine (Lou), Valérie, mother of his children, his brother Michel (Réjeanne), and his sister Louise; Jean-Pierre (Louise); as well as Richard (Marie), Anne (Volker), Hugues (Isabelle) and his many other nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. The musical world loses a key figure in the Orford Quartet, of which he was a founding member from 1965 to 1980.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, January 5 and Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Urgel Bourgie/Athos Funeral Home, 1255 Beaumont Avenue, Town of Mount Royal. A religious ceremony will follow on January 6 at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
