George Kritikos

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of beloved son, brother, relative, and friend George Kritikos.

George was given many gifts by God. He was truly one in a billion.

He was one of those persons that had the ability to walk in a room and just light it up. He also had the ability to leave an impression on someone within a 1st meeting with his amazing genuineness and vulnerability to open up on his life while listening to others about their life. More than anything was his amazing sense of humour. He could make anyone laugh and enjoyed putting a smile on someone’s face.

In his early mid-teenage years, he took on coaching soccer and was an amazing motivator. This included coaching his younger brother who always looked upon him as a role mode. Later in life, he was so proud of going to different schools and universities and talking about and educating about his illness. He touched so many doctors and nurses that they actually became friends.

He also had a very big heart. He loved to fundraise and was amazing at it. He always made a point to make it fun while fundraising. He also loved to help others. Having been in hospitals his whole life, he made the effort whenever he could to visit someone in the hospital to cheer them up as he knows what it meant. Inspired by Patch Adams, for many years, he carried a red nose around to cheer kids up when he had the chance.

It goes without saying, George’s life cannot be described without outlining what an incredible warrior and a fighter since Day 1 of his life. He was born with one illness and then went onto to 8 illnesses at the time of his 60th birthday on June 4, 2023 which was a huge milestone in itself. Doctors told him & his family so many times that we would not make it. He never gave up though. With God’s grace, he kept fighting and was a big inspiration to so many. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest living Thalassemia patient in all of Canada. Ultimately, a walking miracle for 60 years.

More than anything, he was a man of faith. Despite all of his trials & tribulations, he never cursed God and kept his faith until the end. At his 60th birthday party on June 4, 2023, he unusually did not say or do much other than doing his Cross and saying “God bless you all”.

Many times, our world measures success by job titles, money in the bank account, education certifications, popularity and other worldly measures. With George, he left his mark on so many people and touched so many people that, ultimately, you can say he led the most successful life possible.

We will all miss him deeply and sorely. May God bless his soul.
