Jean-Marie Gingras

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Jean-Marie Gingras on September 8, 2023.

He is survived by his wife Pierrette Baril, his children Stéfanie (Patrick) and Jean-Pascal (Lynn), his grandchildren Florence, Maxime and Eloise, his brothers André and Claude (Marthe), his in-laws and many relatives, friends and colleagues.

Jean-Marie was an exceptional person. A passionate lover of all things human and scientific, an avid reader and gardener in his spare time, Jean-Marie was a great lover of life. With his unfailing spirit, he overcame difficulties with great resilience and serenity.

After completing his studies at Collège Saint-Laurent and Université de Montréal, Jean-Marie began his practice at Centre médical Saint-Jovite. A few years later, he moved to Polyclinique St-Martin and Cité de la Santé de Laval, where he practiced from 1976 to 1997. In 1980, he co-founded Carrefour Médical Laval, a group of seven general practitioners. Ready to take on new challenges, Jean-Marie became Cité de la Santé's medical advisor at the Bureau de Santé et Sécurité du Travail in 1978. Subsequently, he was appointed medical advisor to several hospitals and school boards in Laval, the Laurentians, the South Shore, and Montreal and surrounding areas. His expertise is in demand. From 2001 to 2006, he worked for the Ministère de la Santé et des Services Sociaux, where he set up a large multidisciplinary committee to issue recommendations on the issue of disability due to mental disorders among staff in the health and social services network. In 2003, he became medical advisor to the Centre Hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM), where he worked until his death. He acts as an expert witness before the Tribunal administratif du travail (TAT) and in grievance arbitrations. He developed assessment tools that were used to perfect the practice of management medicine, including the French Health Insurance Claim Form (FRAS). He also advises the CRSSS de la Baie-James and the Centre de santé Tulattavik de l'Ungava.
Jean-Marie was an enthusiast. He built scale models of historic tall ships, and loved gardening and doing puzzles. He was known for his smile, charisma, empathy, generosity and great insight. He was a pillar of our family and will always hold a special place in our hearts.

We would like to thank all the intensive care staff at Anna-Laberge Hospital. We are extremely grateful for the care provided in Palliative Care and Respiratory Intensive Care at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Thank you to all the palliative care physicians, specialists and nurses who went above and beyond to provide Jean-Marie with exceptional care. We are deeply touched by your dedication.

The family will welcome you on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Urgel Bourgie / Athos Cemetery and Funeral Complex in St-Hubert, 8145 Chemin de Chambly, Saint-Hubert, Québec, J3Y 5K2.
