Elaine Betros (née Esber)
Elaine Betros (nee Esber), loving wife of George Betros, mother of Stephanie (Russ) and Nicholas (Chantal), and Sito to Julia, Willow, Ryder, and Tallula, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the age of 79 on March 11, 2023.
Survived by her sister, Joyce Esber, her brother Thomas Esber (Kathy) and pre-deceased by her brother Ferris Esber from Canton, Ohio. As well as her nephews, Michael and Alex Esber and her many beloved cousins across the United States.
Elaine was born in Canton, Ohio where she met and married her husband, George of 55 years. She then moved to Montreal and started a family.
Elaine loved children. She spent over 30 years as a lunch and daycare monitor at Father Penny, Holy Cross and Gardenview elementary schools, where she was lovingly known as Mrs. B or Mrs; Beatris.
Elaine was selfless. In the late 70’s she served as Sunday School Superintendent at Saint-George’s Church. She also devoted many hours to various charities including serving as Director of the Woman’s Auxiliary for the 8th chapter and meals on wheels.
Elaine was a friend. She was part of many circles including the McDonald’s morning coffee crew, the Lachute Ladies’ bowling team, the “basic” co-worker group, the Friday lunch crew, the adopted sister of the Salhany clan, and head of the “Sito Posse”!
Elaine was a baker. She would never show up anywhere empty handed. From her dentist to her doctors, she was always equipped with sweets to hand out.
Elaine was a blessing. Anyone who met her, even for a short period of time, was forever changed. Her heart was wide open and her smile was contagious. She will be forever missed.
A special thank you to Vilma Bermudez Naco for her love, care and support. Additional thanks to the nurses, PABs and staff at the Jewish General Hospital.
