Sheila Gordon
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sheila Findlay (nee Gordon) on Friday, January 28th at the age of 91. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Gord, and her two brothers Leslie and Douglas. Loving aunt to Debbie (deceased), Douglas, Donald & Diane; and to Danny, Bonny, Helga & Tanya; and to Susan & Arlie (deceased).
Sheila was born on August 31st, 1930 in a Montreal hospital elevator to parents Alexander Gordon and Doris (nee Titus). She was fond of saying “That’s why I have my ups & downs”. At the age of 13 months, she contracted polio and was paralyzed for 3 years. However, she was left with only a slight limp thanks to her mother’s tender loving care. She spent a lot of time in Gratten Lake at her grandparent’s house (Cecil & Gage Titus) and then at the cottage in Chateauguay with her husband Gord.
For 30 years, Sheila worked as a bookkeeper, with 8 of her favorite years employed at the Montreal Association for the Blind. She also devoted many years passionately volunteering at Trinity Pentecostal Church in Ville Lasalle. Sheila always had a positive outlook on life along with Gord and they treasured traveling the world together. Later in life Sheila enjoyed many years vacationing with family and friends in Mexico. She also had a unique talent for solving crossword puzzles & word games, and had a quick wit with a play on words (even while struggling with dementia). Sheila’s mother was a great influence in her life. There were several mottos she taught her to live by and one which stuck in her mind: “Never point your finger at anyone, because if you look at your hand, you’ll see that three fingers are pointing back at you”.
Sincerest thanks to the Chateau Pierrefonds staff for their compassionate care of Sheila. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and minds of her nieces, nephews, and everyone with whom she interacted.
One of Sheila’s favorite biblical verses was “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord”. 2. Corinthians 5:8
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Trinity Pentecostal Church in Ville Lasalle supporting one of their charitable causes.
Funeral service will be held February 25, 2022, viewing 9:30 am, service 10:45 at Trinity Pentecostal Church located at 1050 Boulevard Shevchenko, Lasalle, QC.
