Patrick Assanah
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Patrick Emmanuel Bruce Assanah on November 1, 2021.
Patrick was born in Georgetown, Guyana on January 12, 1944. He was the son of Ludovico Assanah and Leotta Bruce, and brother to Compton, William, Ruth, Alec, Phyllis, and Dennis. Patrick graduated from Queen’s College in Georgetown, Guyana and went on to become a surveyor, mapping the Amazon rainforest in Guyana. He immigrated to Montreal in 1970 and continued to work as a surveyor in James Bay and Churchill Falls. He eventually chose to study accounting at Sir George Williams University, and had an illustrious career at Via Rail Canada for more than 25 years.
An audiophile and excellent dominoes player, Patrick travelled throughout Canada, the United States, and the Caribbean pursuing his passions. He would spend hours in any local record store, making fast friends with anyone who shared his love of music. He was also a prominent member of the Guyana Cultural Association of Montreal.
Patrick was a loving husband to Yvonne and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his wife, daughters Tamara, Candace, Anik, and Patricia, grandchildren Christopher Perkins, August Assanah, and Raphaël and Nicola Dupré.
