Bernadette Dwyer
Mary Bernadette (Bonnie) Dwyer Turner, at the age of 99 years, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 14th 2021 at Foyer Sutton in Sutton, QC.
Bonnie was born in Tilting, Fogo Island. NL, a small island off the coast of Newfoundland, on February 2nd 1922. She had one brother, Walter, who pre-deceased her due to a car accident in 1975. Bonnie was the Post Mistress and Justice of the Peace in Tilting (a position of which she was very proud to hold) until she and her Father, Harry, moved to Montreal in 1954, following the death of her Mother, Sarah. She married Raymond Turner in 1962 and was welcomed into his large extended family with open arms. Bonnie worked many jobs over the years, one of which was manning the desk of the Royal Victoria Hospital Nursing School in Montreal. She loved working with the student nurses and was often asked for her help and advice. She worked there until the Nursing school closed in the mid 70's. Bonnie and Ray moved to New Jersey, where they lived and worked for a few years, but they missed their families and eventually returned to their home in Laval. Following Ray's death in 2007, Bonnie remained in Laval in her home alone until 2010, at which time she decided to sell her house and moved to St- Patrick Square in Cote-Saint-Luc. At the age of 95, she moved to Villa-des-Monts in Sutton and lived autonomously until she needed help to look after herself in 2019.
At the age of 98, she was admitted to long term care at Foyer Sutton.
She is survived by her niece, Donna Dwyer (Michael Eldridge), nephews, Kevin, Barry (Diane) and Wayne, and grand-nieces and nephews, Lisa , Emily, Carol, Mike, Stephen and Wayne. Her Brother-in-law and Sister-in law Patrick and Patricia Turner as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews from Ray's family.
I would like to thank her niece, Noreen, for her help and input at this difficult time. The Family would also like to thank the entire staff and volunteers of the MVA Unit at Foyer Sutton for their professionalism, compassion, and their obvious love of their clients, who are treated like family, and not as patients. Thank you, Angela RN, for all your help and understanding, you truly are a credit to your profession!
The Family will welcome you at Complexe Funeraire Urgel Bourgie 1559 rue Montarville. St-Bruno-de-Montarville on Saturday October 23rd 2021 for visitation from 10:00 to 12:00. Funeral Mass at 12:00 with a reception to follow at 1:00
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
