Nickolas Giotis

και με γλυκό χαμόγελο, μια καληνύχτα πες μου”
Peacefully and surrounded by his family, our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Nicolaos Giotis, passed away at home at the age of 91.
He leaves behind his loving wife Eleni, devoted daughters Fotini Claire (John) and Angie (Hovik), and adoring grandchildren Julian, Adriana, Evan and Nicole. Fondly remembered by his siblings, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, many nieces and nephews, and close friends, both in Canada and Greece.
Nicolaos was born in Yiannena, Greece. He grew up on a farm and for his love of animals, decided as a child to be a vegetarian. However, he had to give up this ideal when he served in the Greek Navy as a young man. He met Eleni in Athens, where he was working as a police officer, and decided to follow the girl of his dreams to Canada. Together, they faced the challenges of immigration, established a family, worked hard running a business and built a better future for their children. In this new land, they continued to celebrate the traditions of their culture, while also embracing the opportunities and values of their new homeland. There were many Friday night family dinners out, Saturdays at the movies and gatherings with family and friends. In later life, he had memorable travels to Greece, spending time with his family there and reconnecting with his roots.
His health had been declining for several years, and despite diminishing physical abilities, he remained optimistic and looked for opportunities to lift the spirits of those around him. Nicolaos cherished his family and was always there to support and love them. He led a principled life and by example, taught his children and grandchildren: honesty, hard work, integrity, and to value education. He loved to share his knowledge of world history. His measured words and kindness will always be remembered. His wife, children and grandchildren are forever grateful for his courage and thankful for his long life and steady presence.
Many thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff of the CLSC and Sacré-Coeur Hospital and caring friends and family, who have helped Nicolaos to remain with his beloved wife, in their home, throughout his later years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 4, 2021 from 5 pm to 9 pm at Urgel Bourgie, 3955, chemin Côte-de-Liesse St-Laurent (Québec) H4N 2N6.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 11 am at Archangels Michael and Gabriel Greek Orthodox Church, 11801 Av. Élie-Blanchard, Montréal, QC H4J 1R7
