Theofanis Moutis

Theofanis Moutis, born in Kastori, Sparta, Greece, in 1916, was the last surviving member of ten children, reaching the impressive age of 105. He began his military service as an Evzone, a member of the Greek Royal guard and was a proud veteran of the Second World War. He served in the 11th Division of the Hellenic army during the Balkan Campaign and, from 1946 to 1948, joined the Greek resistance in the fight against communism.

He emigrated to Montreal, Canada, in 1961, followed by his wife and three children in 1963.

He was blessed with over a century of vitality and good health and continued to travel annually to his cherished Kastori until the age of 99. Living life with courage, fortitude and a dry sense of humor, he was an inspiration to his family and those who knew him. His spirit is now in the Spartan mountains with that of his beloved Vasiliki, wife of more than 60 years.

We love you dearly and you will be with us always.

Beloved father of Panagiotis, Demetra and Hari. Father-in-law to Jim and Joseph and dearest grandfather to Victoria. He is survived by three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law in Montreal, along with a brother-in-law in Greece and a great number of nieces and nephews in Montreal, Greece, United States, Australia and Brazil.

The family will hold visitations at Urgel Bourgie, 1255 Beaumont, Mount-Royal, on Monday, June 28th from 2h – 5h pm and from 6h – 9h pm. The funerals will be on Tuesday, June 29th at 12h pm at the St-George Orthodox Cathedral, 245 Ch. De la Côte-Ste-Catherine, Montreal.
