Zaki Kano
Zaki Kano, age 82 of Montreal, QC, passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2021.
Visitation will be held Sunday May 16th 2021 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Salon Funeraire Urgel Bourgie Beaumont located at 1255 Beaumont Avenue, Mont Royal, Quebec H3P 3J1. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, May 17th 2021 at 1:30 pm at Urgel Bourgie Beaumont. Burial will follow the funeral at Mont Royal cemetery at 3:00 pm located at 1297 Chemin de la Foret, Outremont, QC H2V 2P9. Location L7.
Zaki was born in Mardin on November 15, 1938. He immigrated with his older brother, Soubhi, and sister, Gular, to Derbasieh, Syria after they lost their parents at a young age. Zaki surmounted numerous challenges as a child. He worked with his brother in farming while living in Aleppo and he met and married Rouayda Sayegh, his beloved wife of 53 years. He went on to have one of the first large-scale chicken hatcheries in Damascus, Syria. He and Rouayda immigrated to Montreal, Canada wanting to give their children every opportunity for a better education and greater success in life. He embraced the challenge of leaving his home and the successful life he had worked his entire life to build for the sake of his family. His children - Zachary Usama (Rebecca) Kano, Regina (Joseph) Siryani, Christina Kano, Bassel (Christine) Kano, and Dominic (Erika) Kano- and thirteen grandchildren (Lauren, Joseph Jr., Jennifer, Emily, Mary, Zachary, Henry, Misha, Elias, Margaret, Clara, Leo, and Caroline) will always be grateful for his sacrifices.
Family was always central in Zaki’s life and he was an incredibly devoted, loving, and selfless husband, father, brother, uncle and cousin, as well as a dear and respected friend to many. Zaki was a highly valued member of his church and community and was known to be the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was happiest surrounded by the joy and chaos of gatherings with grandkids running around. He led by an example of doing one’s best, living with integrity and compassion, and always taking time for loved ones. He instilled these values in his children and grandchildren.
