Dilaram Kachroo

It is with great sadness that we share with you the passing of our Father Pandit Dr. Dilaram Kachroo. He passed suddenly of natural cause, at his his home on December 26, 2020.

He had enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner the night before that he had prepared himself, and shared by video and pictures with many family members. Until the very end, he was in good health and enjoying his life. Dr. Dilaram Kachroo was an accomplished mathematician with a Ph.D. exploring chaos theory and a professor at various colleges in the Montreal area for more than 30 years. He was born in Kashmir, where he won many accolades for long-distance swimming in the glacial rivers and lakes of Srinagar. He also sang classic Hindi and Kashmiri ballads on Indian Radio and was proficient on the Tabla. He married Mohini Dhar Kachroo in 1957 and started a family of three children. After being scouted in 1965, he came to study mathematics at McGill University. Five years later, he proudly brought his family to Montreal and built a life there. He was an exceptional bridge and chess player, and also enjoyed playing and coaching cricket and soccer. Dr. Kachroo even ran as a Member of Parliament in Montreal’s south shore for the conservative party. He later campaigned for his good friend, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. Dr. Kachroo's legacy, in which he took great pride, are his three children; sons Leeladher and Vidhyadher Kachroo, his daughter Dr. Gaytri Kachroo; and his four grandchildren, Arjun, Bharat, Kirin, and Maya.

He was very proud of his family and their accomplishments. He is survived by his youngest brother Professor Ishwer Chandra Kachroo and numerous nieces, nephews and others who he loved greatly.
