Dr. Genoveva P. Santander 84, of Montreal, Quebec, passed away from Alzheimer’s disease complications on December 13, 2020 peacefully at the Jewish General Hospital with some of her loved ones by her side.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 19, 2020 from 2:00 to 4:30 PM and on Sunday, December 20, 2020 from 2:30 to 3:30PM (Family only) at Complexe Funeraire Urgel Bourgie Feron Athos on 1275 Dollard Avenue in Lasalle.
A private funeral service will be held at 3h30 PM on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at the same place.

Dr. Genoveva P. Santander was born in Manila, Philippines on January 3, 1936. She graduated with a degree in Dental Medical Doctor from the Manila Central University under an Athletic Scholarship. She then moved to New York in the early 60’s and was granted a fellow at Guggenheim Dental Clinic while pursuing higher education at Columbia University. In the late 60’s, she moved to Montreal and became a Dental Intern at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. In 1977, she became the first Filipina to practice the Art of Dentistry in the province of Quebec.
She was actively involved in the Filipino-Canadian community in the Montreal region and was elected president of the Philippine Association of Montreal & Suburbs, and Federation of Filipino-Canadian Associations of Quebec and led the Kababaihang Rizalista for several years. She was named as one of the 10 Outstanding Filipinos in Canada in Toronto and as one of the 20 Outstanding Filipinos in North America in Washington DC as well as many awards and accolades from the different Filipino and non-Filipino organizations in the province of Quebec.
She is survived by her adopted son, Daniel, brother, Meliton., sisters, Andrea & Justina, sisters-in-law, Sally & Billie, as well as her nieces, nephews. great nephews & nieces & great great nephews & nieces and her longtime companion Linda. To her many friends and patients alike she will always be remembered as “The Singing Dentist”.
“Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May she Rest in Peace".
