Father John Emmett Walsh

With great sorrow and a citywide feeling of heartbreaking loss we regret to announce the unexpected passing of Reverend John E. Walsh on November 9, 2020.

For an extraordinarily fortunate few, he was the brightest of lights at the core of our family. He was the beloved son of the late Emmett and Margaret Walsh, devoted brother to Marlene Robitaille and brother-in-law to the late Raymond (Tom) Robitaille. As an uncle he will be missed by Deborah and Larry, Ray and Carol, Mike and Stacy, Laura and Baldwin. Great uncle to Joshua, Shannon, Claire, Rachael, Anna, Thomas, Matthew, Jacob, Julia, Ambrose and Taetum.

For all who met him he was a force of emotional gravity. He pulled us in, hugged us tightly, listened as if the world around did not exist, mended any bits of brokenness and sent us back into the world feeling loved and worthy. A Catholic priest by vocation, Father John earned celebrity for his uncommon kindness and his boundless energy for the causes he held most dear. In him, those without a home found one. Those without companionship; a ready friend. Although our world aches today without him in it, his spirit will endure through a legacy of compassion, civic duty, unity and love.

A week before his passing, a home for young men with mental health issues was dedicated to Father John in recognition of his commitment to helping Montreal's homeless. In lieu of flowers donations to John's House can be made at http://nazarethcommunity.com/donate-now/
