Nikolaos Kostopoulos

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Nikolaos Kostopoulos, beloved husband of 60 years to Helen Gikas Kostopoulos. He passed away peacefully on October 3, 2020 at St Mary”s Hospital surrounded by his family. Loving father to Anastasia (Christos), Chrysoula (Billy) and Stergiannie (Steven) and loving grandfather of Konstantinos, Nikolaos, Stefanos (deceased), Vanessa, Eleni, and Nicholas. He is also survived by his brother,George, brother-in laws and sister-in laws, nieces and nephews, Godchildren and many friends worldwide.

Nikolaos Kostopoulos was born in Mavromati, Greece to Stergios and Anastasia Kostopoulos. After courageously fighting in the civil war, as a young police Sergeant (22 years old) in Karditsa for his country he was injured and presumed dead for hours. Ηe did not give up and continued in his career as a police officer, as well as studying at the same time, until he emigrated to Canada in 1956. He worked as an accountant before establishing Diana Travel Service where he took great pride in connecting people with his homeland of Greece until he retired at a very late age. He still enjoyed going out for walks, telling stories, conversing in Latin, French, and Italian (amongst Greek and English), dancing, and playing cards and backgammon.

Nikolaos was a very generous, loving, and dignified man. He was dedicated to his family and friends and he had an incredible amount of energy. He was greatly admired by many for his strength and resilience. He was a devout church member. He lived a very happy, long and healthy, adventurous and fulfilling life. He was loved by many and will always be remembered and greatly missed by all.

Visitation will be at Urgel Bourgie,1255 Av Beaumont, Mont- Royal, on Sunday October 11, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A mass in Memory of Nikolaos will be celebrated at St.Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Laval on Tuesday October 13, at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nikolaos to St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation or Montreal Children’s Hospital are appreciated.
