Sheila Elizabeth Powers (née LaRose)

It is with profound sadness and sincere gratitude for her remarkable Christian life that we announce our Mother’s peaceful passing with her daughter Debbie by her side into our Lord’s loving embrace on September 13th, 2020 following a lengthy and difficult battle with cancer.

She was the faithful daughter of the late Charles J. LaRose and Josephine D. Kearney, beloved wife of the late Patrick J. Powers until his untimely death on October 10th, 1974 at the age of 45. He remained the love of her life until this day. She was the devoted Mother of Monsignor Patrick Powers P.H., Dale (Peter Reilly) Deborah (Jacques Marcotte) Michael (Eva Cheung) and Kearney (Charlene Bendall).

She was the loving grandmother of John (Lisa Shannon), Kathleen (Doug Partridge), James, David, Michael, Shane, Stephanie and Makayla and great-grandmother of Jack and Amy.
Missing her are her relatives in Cornwall, ON and in the United States where she had shared many good times and whose memories she treasured. She will be remembered for her unique personality and sense of humour, especially her smile and laugh. Keenly interested in what one had to say, the door was always opened for guests to join her around the table… and could she ever set a table! She was extremely well read, an avid bridge player and thoroughly enjoyed the arts, music and theatre.
One of her final wishes was to thank her doctors who unselfishly looked after her through the years, especially Dr. E. Falls, Dr. M. Tanzer, Karen Smith, Dr. B. Bodmer. Dr. A. Saidi, Josée Lamoureux.

A special thank you to Dr. Golda Tradounsky and her team in the Palliative Care Unit at Mt. Sinai Hospital. The Doctors, nurses and assistants provided our Mother with the ultimate care, showing tremendous compassion and let her pass with dignity.

The funeral mass has been planned to be celebrated in her beloved St-Augustine of Canterbury Church (corner of Roberval and Cherbourg Streets) in St-Bruno de Montarville, QC on October 10th, 2020 at 10:30 AM. The family will be present to receive condolences from 9:30 AM before the Eucharistic Celebration. Interment will follow immediately in the family plot in St-Bruno Parish Cemetery.
