Maurice Agaiby
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Maurice Napoleon Agaiby (May 2, 2020), beloved son of Napoleon and Linda Agaiby (both predeceased). He was 82, still with a young face and a handsome smile. A courteous, rare and unique man, Maurice was remarkably exceptional, modest, and with humble decorum. He is a man the likes of which no longer exist in our time.
Maurice was born on Dec 2, 1937, in Cairo Egypt. He attended the University of Cairo and graduated as a brilliant young electrical engineer in heavy industry in Egypt. He was proud of his ancient Coptic heritage and always carried his family and birth country in his heart. In 1968, Maurice's rebellious and adventurous nature helped him to immigrate to Canada. This is where he based his next 50+ years as a distinguished and well traveled engineer, husband, father, and eventually a grandfather. In 1969, he married his 1st wife Barbara (predeceased) in Glace Bay, NS. They have 3 children together, Dolores, Carolyn, and Christopher. Maurice was one of the first Egyptian immigrants to Canada, helping to pave the way for many others.
In addition to his children, Maurice is survived by his 5 grandchildren, Taylor, Makayla, Sophia, Cleo and Luca. All have great memories of his cooking and adventurous stories. He is survived by his brother Antoine and sisters Violette and Yvonne. Maurice remarried in 2007 and is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 14+ years Suzanne and his step children Marie-France and Phillipe. He is predeceased by his brother Louis and sister Audette. He is in heaven with them now enjoying the view.
Maurice blended modern-thinking with the best of the old-ways. He always kept an open mind and gently and lovingly took care of his family and friends. Let us celebrate his life and legacy together and remember his example of kindness and honesty.
