Maurice LeClair

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved father Maurice LeClair on April 25, 2020 at the age of 92 years old. Husband of Pauline Héroux, he was the son of the late François (Frank) LeClair and the late Rose-Anna Chassé, and the brother of the late Raymond (Céline Gosselin and first marriage late Charlotte Lafontaine) and Lorraine (late Pierre Franche).

He left us surrounded by his family and leaving to mourn our dear mother Pauline, his precious kindred soul and love for 68 years, and his six children: Suzanne (Jean-Marie), Marie, François (Francine), Manon (Paul), Guy (Marie-Josée) and Nathalie. He also leaves to mourn his 14 grandchildren: Jérôme, Nicolas, Andréa, Maude, Eve, Maxime, Julien, Michèle, Gabrielle, Louis, Jeanne, Laura, Léo, Emma and their spouses. He had the pleasure of welcoming 3 great grandchildren, Lenni, Simone, Aline, and was preparing to welcome a fourth to be born next month. His dear sister Lorraine, all his relatives LeClair and Héroux and his friends share our mourning today.

Our father had a distinguished career and was known for his remarkable intelligence and determination A graduate of McGill University and then of the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minnesota), he practiced internal medicine at Notre-Dame Hospital and at the Sherbrooke University Hospital. His passion for teaching earned him the title of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sherbrooke. He then joined the federal public service, where he distinguished himself as Deputy Minister of Health, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology and finally Secretary of the Treasury Board. He pursued his career at CN, of which he was CEO, before joining CIBC and serving on the boards of several companies. His career has earned him numerous awards and distinctions, including those of Companion of the Order of Canada and being inducted into the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame.

According to him however, his greatest accomplishment and pride was his family. He was an extraordinary and generous husband, father and grandfather. His unconditional love, loyalty and sense of humor have been the foundation of the united family that we are. This is his most precious legacy to pass on to future generations.

We would like to express our deep gratitude to the caregivers at Home Instead as well as to all the staff at CHSLD St-Georges in Montreal for their invaluable support during the last months of his life.

Due to current circumstances, a ceremony in his memory must be postponed to a later date. In the meantime, the family can receive messages of condolence.

At his request, donations can be made to the organization Dans la rue which was particularly close to his heart www.danslarue.org.
