Patrick Brendan Campbell
Dr. Patrick Brendan Campbell passed away on February 23, 2020, peacefully at the Montreal General Hospital. He will be sorely missed by Mary, his beloved wife of 57 years. In Melbourne, he is mourned by his brother Desmond (Andrée), sister-in-law Lois (the late Frank); in Dublin, by his sister-in-law, June (the late Leo); in Arizona by his late sister Betty’s daughters as well as all his many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. All of us will miss his gentle and welcoming manner, his wisdom, compassion and sense of humour.
After graduating in Medicine from UCD, he interned in the Mater Hospital in Dublin, followed by a year in St. Vincent’s NY. Upon deciding to specialize in psychiatry he pursued that study at McGill where along with lectures he received invaluable experience in various hospitals. Upon completion, he became certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada as well as the Quebec College. Later he received his Fellowship in Psychiatry. Throughout he was involved in several research projects. He worked at St. Mary s for years where he was in turn, Chief of the Out-Patient Department, Chief of Liaison Psychiatry and Chief of In-Patient Services. He was a McGill lecturer involved in teaching and tutoring medical students, interns and residents and was an Examiner of the medical students in their final examination in psychiatry for 5 years.
In later years he treated his patients in his private practice. But more importantly, he was an understanding, kindly and most sympathetic doctor in taking care of his patients. He was truly a healer in all aspects of his life. Deep appreciation for the wonderful care he received from the doctors, nurses and all the staff of the Montreal General Hospital. May he rest now in God’s holy presence.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00 a.m. in

An offering in his memory (should you wish) may be made to St. Patrick’s Basilica (www.stpatricksmtl.ca ) or to The Pillars Trust Fund ( www.pillarstrust.org )
