Magdi Tewfik

Magdi died on April 16, 2019 at the age of 79 after a courageous fight against cancer.

He spent his youth in Cairo and then emigrated on July 14, 1966 to Montreal. He married his fiancée from Egypt, Hoda, on August 5, 1967.

As a Professional Engineer, he was hired upon his arrival by Northern Electric. Six years later, he moved on to Transport Canada (NAV CANADA) until his retirement in 1997. He was then Director of Technical Services and his wife Hoda, a mathematics teacher. She passed away on December 25th, 2000.

In 2005, Magdi married a “true Québéquoise”, Claudette Bussière. Together they would realize Magdi's dream of spending winters at the Red Sea. It was a homecoming for Magdi. They would then travel and discover new places, each just as wonderful as the next: Vancouver, Alaska, France, Switzerland, Germany, England, China and of course they followed the sun, to the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean, Cuba and Thailand, to finally "perch" themselves on the shores of Pompano Beach, Florida.

He loved family get-togethers with his beloved grandchildren: Natalia, Alessandro, Katia, Felicia and Evan, who will not forget Geddo’s famous "mollo". He also loved BBQs and good meals shared with his friends. “Bon vivant”, Magdi lived life to the fullest.

Son of the late Nessim Tewfik and the late Hélène Durmort, he was predeceased by his first wife Hoda, his sister Christiane (Antoine), his two brothers Sami Jean-Claude and Nagui Jacques (Annie). Magdi is survived by his wife Claudette, his 2 sons Marc (Mylène) and Frédéric (Patricia), his daughter-in-law Sophie (Michäel), his 5 grandchildren, his mother-in-law Alice Karam, as well as several nephews and nieces and many friends.

The family will receive condolences at Urgel Bourgie funeral home, 1255 Beaumont, Town of Mont-Royal, on Monday April 22, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges cemetery, 4601 Ch. Cote des Neiges. Montreal.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites those who wish to donate to his memory at the West Island Palliative Care Residence, which provided him with end-of-life care, with great humanity and dignity. Donations can be made online at: http://residencesoinspalliatifs.com
