Maurice Riel

It is with great sadness that the family of Maurice Riel announces his passing on Friday, July 20, 2007, at the age of 85 years.

After being head of his own law firm for 30 years, Maurice Riel joined the firm of Stikeman, Elliott as senior partner in 1975, where he worked until his retirement in 1999. His expertise was in international law. He was member of the Senate of Canada from 1973 to 1997, president of the Senate from 1983 to 1984 and appointed member of the Privy Council in 1984.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Laurence Cloutier, his children Louise (Claude Léger), François (Ginette Lavallée), Hélène (Filippo Salvatore), his ten grandchilden and their spouses, his thirteen great-grand-children, his sistes-in-law Georgette (Germain Riel), Liliane (Paul Cloutier), Suzanne (Jacques Cloutier) et Rose-Blanche (Marcel Cloutier), and many relatives and good friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 25 at 11 am at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Home.
