Antonio Ferri

It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Antonio (Tony) Ferri on February 24, 2019.

Born in Quebec City on April 25, 1924 he lived a long and full life mostly in Montreal. Beloved husband for 53 years of the late Florence Colecchio, dear father to Louise (Brian Monti), grandfather to Christopher (Beth), brother to Pascal and “Mon oncle Tony” to many nieces and nephews.

Tony served in the Canadian Army during WWII before joining the Montreal Police force in 1948 where he served the community for over 20 years. He was an active member of the Police War Veterans’ Association of the District of Montreal. He then worked in private security for Maislin Transport. An avid lover of baseball, he enjoyed his role as an usher for the Montreal Expos. His passion was jogging which he did year round at 5:30 a.m. until the age of 75 when he switched to taking equally long daily walks.

In 2003 he moved to Ontario be near his daughter. Though dealing with progressive dementia, he fully participated and actively volunteered at the Barton Retirement Residence in Newmarket where he lived happily for over 12 years. In 2015 he moved to Union Villa, a Long Term Care facility in Unionville, Ontario where he finally passed away following a brief stay at the Markham Stouffville Hospital.

Special thanks go to the staff and residents at the Barton who showed their love for Tony and looked out for his well being. Additional thanks go to the staff at the Orange, Purple, and 3E Units at the Markham Stouffville Hospital for their concern and support. Most of all, we are forever grateful to the entire incredible staff at Union Villa, particularly those assigned to Cedar Grove. Their dedication and loving care made the difference in Tony’s sunset years.

Tony’s warm smile, wit, charm and quiet manner will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those wishing to make a donation in the memory of Antonio are asked to consider the Unionville Home Society at 4300 Hwy 7, Unionville, ON L3R 1L8.
