Celia Rossy (née Shamy)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Celia Rossy in her 88th year. Devoted mother of Michael Rossy Jr. (Yasmin), and Judy Rossy (Michael DiTullio).
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Michael Rossy Sr., her son John Rossy (Conny), and her sister Joyce Shamy Fireman.
She leaves to mourn her brother Dr. Frank Shamy (Dr. Tania), and her sisters Virginia Shaheen and Elaine Assaly. She will be greatly missed by her beloved grandchildren: David and Jessica; Mark, James and Patrick; Nicholas and Olivia. She will also be missed by her many nieces and nephews, extended family and lifelong and devoted friends.
Celia was an active and valued member of the Lebanese community. She was a lifetime member of St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church and served with the Antiochian Women of St George. She was National Secretary of St. Ignatius of Antioch, secretary and board member of of the Cedars Home for the Elderly, and longstanding secretary of the Lebanese Syrian Ladies Aid Society. Celia was also a Governor of Entraide Bois De Boulogne, and a dedicated volunteer at the Royal Victoria and St Mary’s hospitals. She was also a staunch supporter of “Friends for Mental Health “.
Celia was an accomplished retailer working diligently by her husband’s side at Michael Rossy Ltd.
Celia will be remembered for her unconditional love and devotion to her family. Throughout her illness Celia’s intelligence and sense of humour remained, supported by her courage and her faith.
Our family would like to extend its heartfelt appreciation to the caring staff of the Jewish General Hospital and especially to Dr. Sharon Nessim and Dr. April Shamy.
Visitation will take place on Thursday from 2pm-5pm and 7pm-9pm at Urgel Bougie, 1255 Beaumont, Mount Royal. Friday visitation from 10am-11am followed by the funeral service at St George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 555 Jean Talon St E. Montreal.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Department of Nephrology of the Jewish General Hospital, St George Antiochian Orthodox Church, or the Lebanese Syrian Ladies Aid Society.
