Michael Rochemont
Passed away suddenly July 3, 2018, Dr. Michael Rochemont at his home in Vancouver. Survived by his partner, Bruce, step daughter, Sarah and her partner, Chris and grandchildren Marley and Cameron, sister Sharon and her partner Al, brothers Rick and Glenn and family, colleagues and countless extended family in Vancouver, The Sunshine Coast, Quebec, Ontario, Newfoundland, London, Philadelphia, Tuebingen and from Vancouver Island through Sweden to Tel Aviv and beyond. He touched so many lives.
Michael endured great illness over the recent months and for many years survived countless bouts of poor health. He soldiered on in the face of it, with the style and grace we came to know him for. Michael was a long time Professor of Linguistics at UBC, whose accomplishments are widely recognized. He put his heart and soul into everything he undertook, whether his research and teaching, his culinary excellence or his masterful gardening. He never gave up. Most of all he was a kind, decent person and a true friend. Unforgettable. Rest In Peace, dear Michael.
Arrangements are underway for gatherings in his honour in Vancouver and St. John’s.
We will gather at Urgel Bourgie Memorial Park, 3955 Cote de Liesse at 1:00 PM August 4th with interment at 3 PM. Following at the home of Michael’s sister Sharon in Pointe Claire.
