The world is a little less bright today. Our precious mother and grandmother passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at 12:38pm, just 20 days after her beloved son, David, our brother and uncle passed. Our hearts are broken to have lost two beautiful treasures so close together. 

Ann was born in Edmonton, Alberta on November 5, 1924 to Angelo and Olympia (Muzzin) Benedetti. She married, the love of her life, Larry Hynes in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory on December 10, 1947. Together, with their children, they led an active social military life abroad and in Canada before her husband’s sudden death on November 30, 1989, just shy of their 42nd wedding anniversary. 

Before Ann became ill, she loved to golf, to dance and as a member of the Air Force Association and the Royal Canadian Legion to attend military functions and soirees. She loved to travel, especially to her Triestine Girls reunions; she loved to cook (her lasagna was the best!), to take art class and to run her bridge club. Ann was admired by her community of friends and her gift to others was her dignified manner and her willingness to hear your story. So many people remember Ann for her kindness and for her discreet manner. She was the epitome of fairness and encouraged her children in her silent, strong and unique way to always do the right thing. She taught all of us many valuable life-lessons with her goodness and her gentle heart. A grand lady with a wonderful sense of humour, she will be lovingly remembered by her many friends and her family: oldest son Ken, daughter Carol Ann, youngest son Michael, as well as her daughter-in-law Judy Graham. 

A Celebration of Ann’s life is planned for Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 12:00 noon at the Royal Canadian Legion in St. Bruno and as Ann loved get-togethers, she will delight in the reunion of her family and friends at that time. When she first became ill a few years ago, she told us: “Don’t cry at my passing; have a glass of wine instead.”

On Thursday, May 17, she will be buried with her husband, Larry at the Veterans’ Field of Honour in Pierrefonds, Quebec.
