Robert Lavoie

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Lavoie, at the age of 71, on June 17, 2017.

Beloved son of the late Joan Mary Smith and Jean-Louis Lavoie, he leaves to mourn his wife, Dr. Suzanne Gagnon; his precious children, Marie-Claude (Adrian Verzino) and Michel (Jessica Darlington); his grandchildren, Liam, Olivia, Ava and Brandon; his stepsons, Philippe (Marie-Ève Lavoie) and Paul (Priscille Abelard); and his mother-in-law, Jeanne-D’arc Voyer.

He will be forever mourned by his sisters and brothers, Michèle (Norman Cherbaka), Jack (Annie Racine), Paul (Jane Hope) and Brenda (Éric Auspert); his sister-in-law, Madeleine (Jacques Bigras); and his brother-in-law, Marc (Diane Brien). He also leaves Nicole Clavet, the mother of his children. He will be grieved by his nieces and nephews, who all have special memories of time spent with Uncle Bob, as well as by many good friends and colleagues.

No words can justly describe Bob’s qualities as a man. Energetic, joyful, extremely generous and full of goodness, he spread kindness throughout his life. He knew how to love and was very considerate towards the people around him.

Apart from his great humanitarian qualities, he was a very good businessman, having founded Dermtek Pharmaceuticals, the company that formulated Ombrelle sunscreen. He was inducted into the Canadian Healthcare Marketing Hall of Fame in 2006 and was designated a Life Benefactor of the Canadian Dermatology Foundation in 2008. In 2016 he received the Canadian Dermatology Association Award of Honour in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of medicine.

We have lost an irreplaceable husband, a very special dad, a proud grandfather, a devoted brother and an exceptional friend, a man respected by everyone.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Maisonneuve-Rosemont Hospital Foundation for the Jeffrey Michael Cherbaka fund, his godson. Online donations can be made at: fondationhmr.ca/en/donate/in-memoriam-donation/

Rest in peace, dear Bob.
