Hon. Pierre Claude Nolin
It is with great sadness that the Senate of Canada confirms the passing of The Honourable Pierre Claude Nolin, Speaker of the Senate, Thursday, April 23, at the age of 64.
Besides his wife, Camille, he leaves to mourn his children Simon (Marie-Pier Mignault), Louis (Joëlle Arseneault) and Virginie (Catherine Olivier), his grandchildren Elliot, Théodore and Flavie, his sister Marie (Richard Landry), his brothers François (Diane Gauthier), Jacques (Jennifer Boire) and Benoît, his sisters-in-law Marie-Claude and Anne Desjardins (Pierre Audette) as well as many parents and friends.
Speaker Nolin was appointed to the Senate by Prime Minister Brian Mulroney on June 18, 1993 for the senatorial division of De Salaberry (Québec). He was appointed Speaker of the Senate by His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, on November 26, 2014, on the recommendation of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
A public viewing for the late Senator Nolin will take place in a chapel adjacent to the Senate Chambers in Ottawa on Wednesday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The family will welcome friends and relatives Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at the complex Urgel Bourgie/Athos, 3955 Cote-de-Liesse Rd., Ville St-Laurent (Montreal) from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday April 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Funeral mass will be celebrated at the Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal at 2:00 p.m.
