Gregory Kouri

1961-2012

Information

Gregory (Greg) Anthony Kouri, 51, passed away suddenly on Saturday, August 11, 2012 in New York City while on holiday with his family. Originally from Montreal, Canada, he was loved by many from Montreal to Toronto, California to Miami, New York and abroad.

Greg was a true visionary, involved in the internet sector back in 1995, after graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Business. He had started his career in Toronto focusing on real estate before moving to California to co-found Zip2 Corporation, one of the first, internet mapping companies. After successfully selling Zip2, Greg was an angel investor for numerous tech companies based in Silicon Valley, California. He was also a real estate investor in South Florida and Canada.

In 1999, Greg moved to Miami Beach. Greg’s uncanny business acumen led him to several successful early stage investments in several Silicon Valley companies. People remember Greg as a kind, warm gentleman, with an elegant demeanor and an unforgettable smile. He was truly a guiding light for so many, and will be greatly missed by all who's lives he touched.

Greg is survived by his wife, Jean Marie Echemendia-Kouri, his two daughters Ava Camille Frankel, 15, and Vanessa Kouri, 7, and his brother, Andrew Kouri of Montreal. He is also survived by his father, Donald Kouri, and his stepmother Diane Kouri of Montreal. He is predeceased by his mother, Marlene Yared Kouri. He was a loving uncle to Megan, Alexandra, Caroline.

In lieu of flowers, charitable donations to The Cedars Cancer Institute, St. Nicholas Church or to St. George Antiochian Church would be appreciated.

It is with great sadness that I heard the news of the passing of Gregory Kouri. Mrs Kouri, his mom came on my trip to Italy 3 years in a row and she always spoke very highly of both her sons, whom she loved very much. My guess is that they are now together and reading and listening to all our comments. My sympathies go out to the entire family.
