Michele Santamaria

Michele “Mike” Santamaria, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and proud great-grandfather, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love, and devotion to family.

Born in Italy, he immigrated to Canada at just fifteen years old, carrying with him strong roots, resilience, and a deep pride in the life he built.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Elvina (Leblanc) Santamaria. He was a loving father to Giuseppe Santamaria (late Panagiota), Francesca Santamaria (Robert), and Cristina Santamaria (Patrick). He was a devoted and proud grandfather to Alexandra Santamaria (Gabriel), Angela Santamaria (Timothy), Maria-Michaella Santamaria (James), Sabina Myers, Sebastian Myers, and Robert Myers (Destiney), and a cherished great-grandfather to Michael Giuseppe.

He also leaves behind his loving siblings: Vito Santamaria (Palma), Mary Santamaria (Bruno), Nicole Santamaria (Anna), Anna Santamaria (Enrico), and Onofrio Santamaria (Maryanne). He is reunited in peace with his beloved sister, Antonia Santamaria, who passed away just 12 hours before him.

A lifelong provider, Mike began working at Murray’s Restaurant at just 15 years old and remained there until the age of 67. He was an incredibly proud chef whose passion for cooking was evident in everything he did. Over the years, he travelled to different locations, helping to run and support the restaurant wherever he was needed. It was there that he met the love of his life, Elvina Leblanc, beginning a partnership rooted in dedication and love.

Outside of work, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He especially loved traveling to New Brunswick, where he spent time digging clams and fishing. He was also an avid gardener and took pride in his garden.

He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his generosity, his pride in his craft, and above all, his silliness and love for his family. His memory will live on in the meals shared, the gardens grown, and the traditions passed down.

The family will receive condolences on January 25, 2026, at the Urgel Bourgie complex located at 1255 Beaumont Avenue in Montreal, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
A religious service in his honor will follow at the same location.
