Tris Coffin

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tris Coffin, who left us peacefully at his home in Île-des-Sœurs on November 30, 2025. For 58 years, he was the devoted husband of Micheline Cloutier and the loving father of their daughter Julie, the light of his life.

He also leaves in deep sorrow his cherished grandchildren, Olivier De Koninck (Maude Lavigne) and Mia De Koninck.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jacqueline St-Germain and Tris Coffin, as well as his beloved brother Paul and sister-in-law Lyse Cloutier.

Tris is survived by the extended Cloutier and Coffin families:

Pierre Cloutier (Marie Décarie), Paul Cloutier (Ginette Desjardins), José Daignault (the late Paul Coffin), Paul Coffin Jr., Dominique-Ann Coffin (Benoit Hamel), Charles Coffin (Danielle Laplante), Pierrot Cloutier (Marie-Chantal Nappert), Alain Cloutier (Nathalie Giroux), and Isabel Ann Cloutier (Ludovic Leplatois).

A fourth-generation member of the optical profession, Tris elevated his craft to extraordinary heights. Visionary and a pioneer, he reshaped the way clients experience eyewear and continually pushed the boundaries of his art. Admired by his peers, he left a lasting imprint on the industry through his daring spirit, modern approach, and innate sense of innovation.

A businessman with a generous heart, passionate about life, people, and new ideas, he embodied elegance, curiosity, and entrepreneurship.

A devoted golf enthusiast, he first played as a young boy at the Rosemère Golf Club, later spending more than thirty years at the Laval-sur-le-Lac Golf Club, and then many seasons at the Mount Bruno Country Club. In recent years, he enjoyed his winters among dear friends at the Quail Ridge Golf & Country Club in Florida.

One of his proudest achievements was being appointed Chef de Mission for the Canadian men’s alpine ski team at the 1964 Innsbruck Olympic Games, at only 23 years of age.

A passionate, dedicated, and generous man — truly one of a kind, as all who knew him will attest.   We will miss you, TC.

The family will receive condolences at the Complexe funéraire Urgel Bourgie in Town of Mont-Royal (1255 Beaumont Ave.) on Wednesday, December 17th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday December 18th at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church (1020 Laird).

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of CLSC Verdun, especially Dr. Serge Gallant, along with nurses Valérie and Daniella, and to Joanie and the NOVA team.
