Ian Monroe
His active, competent, mostly quiet presence will be missed by us all, especially my mother, his wife of more than 57 years. He had gradually withdrawn from his many activitis over the last several years and we know that he missed them immensly.
He was an active curler with the Mt-Bruno Curling Club, and was on the club's executive for many years, most notably in charge of the Bar.
Dad was the President of the Canadian Branch of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club in the early 1990's and attended several Canadian and World Curling Championships. Dad was the Wporshipful Master of Waverly (Masonic) Lodge several times, even becoming a 33rd degree Mason which is quite an honor.
Dad was connected to the (Montreal) Duffers' Golf Club for many years in the 1980, and early 1990s. In the 1970s, Dad was a track and field official (for throws, especially shot put), being one of the two shot put crew cheifs at the Montreal 1976 Olympics and working many other local, provincial, national and international track meets held across Canada. In 2002, Dad was honoured with the Queen's (5-th) Jubilee Medal (I have forgotten what it was really called) for his participation, as representative of the curling community, in the local society for promotion of things Scottish.
