Katina Mandila Kamateros
1927-2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Katina Mandila Kamateros, wife of the late Stamatis Kamateros, on October 30th, 2025, at the age of 97.
She leaves to mourn her children: Paul and Melpa Kamateros and Helen and Theo Assimakopoulos, her grandchildren: Theoni, Steven, Katerina, Anthoula and Anna, her great grandchildren: Constantinos, Rania, George, Taxia, Theodore, Evangelos, Eleni, Rafe and Noela as well as many other relatives and friends.
As so many other immigrants before her, she left her homeland Greece in the early 1960s and moved to Canada seeking improved prospects for her family. Together with her husband, she adapted to unfamiliar circumstances and established the family business, New Modern Fashions, that she operated from 1970 to 2005. Although she had limited resources, minimal knowledge of the language, and came from a modest background, she became a leader in the garment industry at a time when few women were involved in business. As a show of respect, she was known in the community as "Kira Katina." She remained undaunted by rejection or obstacles, lived mostly in Canada with rare visits to Greece, and took joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will receive condolences from the public on Monday November 3rd 2025 from 4 pm to 9 and there will be a private family viewing on Tuesday November 4th 2025 from 12 pm to 1 pm at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Complex,1255 Beaumont Avenue, Town of Mount Royal.
The funeral will be held Tuesday November 4th, 2025, starting at 1:30 pm at the Koimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church, 7700 de l’Épée Avenue, Montréal. The burial will follow at the Mount Royal Cemetery, 1297 Foret Rd, Outremont,
