Carmen Trimm Tremblay
Carmen Tremblay, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on the morning of October 20, 2025. She was 105 years old. Carmen leaves behind her daughter Claudette Tremblay (her son Maurice Tremblay passed away in 2023) and son-in-law Mitch Mitchell; her seven grandchildren Wusua, Sassa, Fimo, Cheeka, Melissah, Kiona, and Meshawna; and her five great-grandchildren Melissah, Mehki, Malika, Maharli, and Theo. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Eddie and a large extended family who loved her dearly.
Carmen was born in Montreal’s St. Henri district on August 23, 1920. She was the firstborn child of Isabelle Sheppherd and James Trimm, who immigrated to Canada from Guyana in the early 1900s. Carmen was two years older than her brother Randolph and four years older than her youngest brother, Clarence, who was tragically killed in World War II at the age of 21. When Carmen was just 13, she lost her 36-year-old mother to an illness that, today, would have been easily treated.
From an early age, Carmen developed a love of music. She enjoyed playing the piano and cherished going out dancing. It was at one of those dances that she met a handsome young man from the East End, Maurice Tremblay, who quickly captured her heart. Unfortunately, their courtship was interrupted when Maurice joined the army and was sent overseas to fight in World War II. During the war, they stayed in touch through letters and when Maurice returned home in 1945, they reunited and soon married. They shared more than 60 years of love and companionship until his passing in 2003.
Although Carmen lived a modest life, it was a remarkable one. Few would have imagined she’d live to 105, especially given her fainting spells as a young woman and her mother’s early passing. She often spoke fondly of her time working at the war plant during World War II, a period that brought her a sense of pride and purpose. She occasionally expressed regret about not pursuing her studies further, yet she embraced life fully in her own way.
Carmen was known for her vitality and love of simple pleasures. She was an avid walker, often taking long strolls through her neighborhood and beyond. She enjoyed trips to the movie theatre and cherished going to Expos games with Maurice. Her dignity, kindness, and resilience left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
