Henri Atlas
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Henri Atlas at the Sacré-Coeur Hospital in Montreal on October 9, 2025, at the age of 87.
He is survived by his beloved partner, Sophie Lacharité, and her family. A devoted and exemplary father, he also leaves behind his four daughters, Caroline (Enzo Abram), Pascale (Jean-François Marquis), Barbara (Lionel Assoun), and Kathleen (Yves Lauwers), his former wife Françoise Vanderhaegen, his grandchildren Yann, Loïc, Charlotte, Thomas, Noémie, Sacha, Dharam, and Daphnée and their partners, as well as his great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His sister Danièle Atlas (Marco Wolf) and his brother Michel also mourn his loss.
An outstanding surgeon, builder, and visionary, Dr. Atlas leaves at the Sacré-Coeur Hospital—where he built his career—a rich legacy of accomplishments in several fields, notably in traumatology, bariatric surgery, and robotics. He was also deeply committed to passing on his knowledge to the next generation.
Born in Belgium but having made Quebec his home for more than fifty years, Henri leaves behind many friends, colleagues, and fellow enthusiasts of salmon fishing and hunting.
Known for his great generosity and love of life, he will be deeply missed.
The family will receive condolences on November 15, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Complex, located at 1255 Beaumont Avenue in Montreal. The final hour will be dedicated to tributes, followed by a light reception.
