Margaret “Maggie” (Petö) Taussig  April 28, 1933 - October 3, 2025

Margaret “Maggie” (Petö) Taussig, 92, of Montreal, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday morning, October 3rd.

Maggie was born on April 28, 1933 to Margit Ször and Imre Petö in Montreal. She was born with a caring soul that she shared with the world, a deep love of cooking and sewing, and a steadfast loyalty to her friends and family.

Margaret was a loving mother to her three children, Robert (Doris), Peter (Amy) and Karen, her two grandchildren, Ruby and London, and numerous nephews and nieces. She is survived by her sister, Sandra (Petö) Vass of Toronto.  Maggie was a devoted sister to Sandra and her predeceased two brothers Nicolas and Leslie whom she always stayed close to.

Margaret was a devoted educator for Marianopolis College, teaching biology for more than 3 decades. She was an inspiration to her students, refusing to give up on them no matter the struggle and continuing those relationships far beyond the school year.

Margaret went to Montreal High school and then McGill University, where she was the first in her family to graduate from university, earning her two doctorate degrees in microbiology. It was while working at the Royal Victoria Hospital in the late 1950’s where she met her life long love, Andrew “Andy” Taussig whom she was devoted to until his passing in 2007.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Vigi Mont Royal for their outstanding care of our sister, aunt and friends. Their care of our mother allowed her to have her remaining days filled with love and dignity. We are very grateful.
