Michael Shamie
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Shamie, beloved husband to Loretta Shamie for 60 years and loving father to Lynda (Carmine Starnino), Diane (Bob Coté) and Sandra (Ken Khoury). He is predeceased by his dear parents the late Joseph and Eva (Saba) Shamie and his brother Fred (Marie-Paul). He will be sadly missed by his sister Gladys (Fred) and his brothers Norman (Adele), George (Nora), Emile (Georgia) and Raymond (Christine). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Erica, Anthony, Samantha, Maxim, Jason, Ryan and Kevin and his many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
He was a devote member and past president of the parish council of St-George Orthodox Church and past member of Kiwanis. He was partner and later become president of a family business, Joseph Shamie & Sons Ltd., which was founded in 1920 and recently closed in 2007. He was affectionately nicknamed Mr. Mike by his faithful and long time employees, customers and business associates. His fondest moments which filled him with great joy and pride were spent around the dinner table Sunday evenings with his family sharing stories about current events, sports and of course his grandchildren’s accomplishments. He was a good and honest man, kind and gentle and lived his life with dignity and integrity. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all.
Our sincere thanks to the dedicated staff at the Jewish General Hospital for their compassion and special care.
Donations to St-George Orthodox Church or to the Cedars Cancer Institute benefiting Cancer Care would be appreciated.
