Kathryn Brenda MacGibbon reposed peacefully in the Lord on October 7th, 2022 at the Montreal Neurological Hospital (the Neuro), where she was being treated for Alzheimer’s and Lou Gehrig’s disease. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, John Taylor, her three children Stephanie (Ted), Jonathan (Lee-Ann), and Jeremy (Louise) and her six grandchildren: Jakob, Isobel, Helena, Alexa, Daniella, and Jessica. She was the beloved daughter of the late Kenneth MacGibbon and Doris Langille of Brownsburg, QC. She was dearly loved by her many cousins, family members and friends.

She led a significant and fruitful professional life as a statistician having been introduced to the field by Larry Brown at Cornell, where she met her lifelong friends and collaborators Susan Groshen and Iain Johnstone. She was recognized as an IMS Fellow. She taught for many years at Concordia University and then at UQAM, and aided many students to find their way and to start their careers.

She was a longtime volunteer with Cedars CanSupport and played an important role in the MUHC, participating in many committees. She was a very effective Chair of the Patients Committee of the MUHC and later was Chair of the MUHC Cancer Care Mission Patients Committee.

Her family very much appreciates and gives heartfelt thanks for all the care and devotion shown to her by the staff of the 3rd floor of the Neuro and by the palliative care team during her 5 week hospitalization.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to the Neuro.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct 13th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm at Urgel Bourgie, 1255 Beaumont Ave, TMR, QC. The funeral will be at 10 am on Friday, Oct 14th at St Benoit de Nursie Orthodox Church, 807 Avenue Sainte Croix, Ville Saint Laurent, QC. Interment will be at the Lachute Protestant Cemetery.
