Pauline Walsh
PAULINE Jones (nee Walsh), 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 9 in the CHLSD St Vincent Marie, St Laurent! With the caring staff of the second floor by her side.
Born in St Malachy, she was the daughter of Mary Humphrey and Thomas Walsh.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband of many years, Sydney Jones, and by her four older brothers: Arthur Healy, Matt Healy, Tom Walsh and Edward Walsh. She will be very sadly missed by her daughter Cathy, St Laurent and her two step children Allan (Catherine Scandar), Pointe Claire, and Patricia (Dwight Maloney), Nova Scotia. Also sharing this loss are her precious grandchildren: Anthony, Montreal, Mary (Gilles Khouzam), Bothel, Washington, Erin, Nova Scotia, and Cayleigh Bowen, St Laurent.
Pauline also leaves behind her great grandchildren: Logan-Eowyn, Pierce,, Chloe, Angelique,, Lucas, Olivier, great great grandson, Jackson and many nieces and nephews.
Pauline was raised on a small farm south of Quebec City where her sense of fun, importance of duty and devotion to family were first nurtured. Trained as a teacher, she loved to share stories of her first years of teaching in a one room school where her duties took her beyond the books to shovelling, cleaning and stoking the fire in the wood stove, all for an annual salary of $350! Later, Pauline moved on into the business world in managerial positions eventually retiring after many years with Bell Canada in Montreal.
Pauline made her home the hub of the family where Christmases, birthdays, baptisms, engagements, weddings, basically all family milestones were noted and celebrated.
Her home was known for tables laden with her specialties, full glasses,laughter, stories and the inevitable practical jokes. Pauline was a rock and the glue that held the family together and her passing marks the great loss of yet another generation of the family.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 16 between 12:00 and 13:00 at the Urgel Bourgie Funeral Home located at 3955 Cote de Liesse, St Laurent, H4N 2N6.
A memorial service and burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
