Giovanni Berti

Montreal, QC – Giovanni Berti, 91, died Tuesday, November 17 at Sacré-Coeur Hospital in Montreal following a prolonged illness.

He leaves his wife of more than 60 years, Giuseppina Berti; his son, Giuseppe Berti, his daughter in law Jacqueline Ritchi; and his granddaughter Christina Berti.

Born in Valmozzolla, Parma nel Emilia, Italy on May 1, 1929 to Pia Moreschi and Giuseppe Berti, he was one of 5 brothers. Following World War II, he worked on his father’s farm. He immigrated to Canada in 1957, where he was joined by his soon to be wife in 1959.

Giovanni Berti worked for more than 30 years as a first-class carpenter in the construction industry, working on many of his adopted city’s important construction sites such as the Metro system, the Olympic Stadium, Many hospitals and city superstructures. In his retirement, he was an avid gardener and was capable of engineering almost anything. He was known to family, friends and neighbours as a quiet, resourceful and a generous man.

A private family ceremony will be held on November 25, 2020 at Our Lady of La Difesa church and will be followed by the burial at Notre-Dame-des-Neiges Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to la Fondation l’Hôpital du Sacré-Coeur de Montréal.
