Whether you are looking for guidance on how to deal with the recent passing of a loved one or planning ahead and looking to familiarize yourself with funeral services, Urgel Bourgie can help.
Here are some important things you need to know about funeral planning.
At the time of death, a funeral home should be chosen and a funeral director should be contacted as soon as possible. The funeral director is the key person who can help you make all the funeral arrangements such as:
Planning a personalized service.
Transporting the deceased.
Casket, Urn and clothing selections.
Flowers, Thank You Cards, Keepsakes.
Pallbearers
Cemetery, Mausoleum or Columbarium Selection.
Receptions
Filing certain government forms.
Whenever there is a delay and/or the viewing of the deceased lasts for more than 24 hours, embalming is required.
The funeral director receives the Attestation of Death from the hospital or a physician and must give a copy to the deceased's family.
Together, the funeral director and the family member who receives the Attestation of Death, must complete and sign the Declaration of Death.
Remember to have all legal documents, health insurance card, and other pertinent information ready when making preparations with a funeral director.
Funeral Services do not have to be made at the time of a loss but can also be made in advance at your leisure. Prearranged funerals are governed and protected by the Act respecting pre-arranged funeral services and sepultures of the Government of Quebec.
